Overall I think the way things are going are towards hydrogen fuel cells: this is the UK motoring program making a case for it by their test of the honda FCX clarity: And it's available in California of all places :P

That looks like a variation on a Wankel engine. And it seems that it's not a new concept, as you can see here. I would really like to see it in a car, on a dyno, and see what kind of numbers it generates.

Bloody hell, that's is an ingenious design!! I wonder if they ran any continuous tests on the engine (ie running it constantly before it breaks or something goes wrong) more to the point they'd need to do a lot of a) design work so that the parts ...

Will Paper-less kill history?

All this hype about electronic work. With ebooks, ereaders, emails and text messages no body writes on paper any more. Thinking about History though we have learned the majority of what we know from paper documents.

If say there was some significant event that send us back to the stone age. How much of our history would we lose to the age of technology?

I was just thinking out loud, I myself am not sure how much significant information we lose every day or even if it makes a difference but wo… Continue

the unexpected

This is just a blog about all those unexpected twists and turns in life.

Sometimes it seems like life can just be after you.... Within the last month I can say I've been through some rough times.

Last Week started off with my car breaking down, I didn't think things could get worst and amongst the chaos of the week. My dog got hit by a car and died. Maybe you don't understand but most dog owners know they really become a part of the family, he was my closets friend.

This week as I look for th… Continue

Computer Science in Education in Colorado

So we are almost done with the first quarter of my first year in Education. Yet there is this issue that still nags me! Computer Science and how it is injected into education at any level.

First I completely understand that at any level there has to be a set of understanding to get to those higher level concepts. Yet, I think there are tons of things about Computer (technology) Education that gets over looked. We teach technology in our high schools, and middle schools as a tool and nothing els… Continue

it's true that engineering was (on some levels) less involved. however, in some ways they are more open now, in some ways less. some of the efforts in computer engineering have made things more complicated, but above all, some things are becoming less difficult to innovate/reinnovate without access to trade secrets.

i feel that open technology will assist education. unfortunately in the united states, lobbying against open technology has been easy under the administration of the last 8 years. during the next 8 i think it could go in either direction. i believe that introduced to the right people, the new pres will realize the importance of open technology, as the dept. of defense did in spite of the previous administration, and as did countless other nations. you should expect the vp to be a counter on this issue, in the past he has been very cozy with the riaa. unlike many well known floss advocates however, i believe one of the best ways to teach floss is side-by-side with its proprietary competition. macs are in between.

regarding the curriculum i could not agree more. this is another area where our interests overlap and i would not tire of hearing your ideas about it. in th future i may add some of my own.

i would replace the word "software" with the word "applications." focusing on applications is a waste of time for all the reasons teaching "software" is. but offering hands-on experience with the right software can prepare people to learn applications themselves. there needs to be a sort of "apps theory" curriculum. one that helps people learn how to learn apps, based on the common themes between them. that is how i taught myself. and if you teach web applets, gui apps, and textmode apps side by side, they will learn how similar they all are and learn to find the fields, shortcuts, menus and controls they need to use applications. no one should leave not knowing what a taskbar (or a panel) is, and it should be win/mac/lin too. no more teaching one o.s.

if you're competing with the magnatune label (it sounds like you might be, even if not intentionally) it's good to know they split things 50/50 with their artists, based on cd's and presumably subscription based listening. like your label they off...

ok so long term a subscription option is on the cards, I just have to work out the model, how to distribute funds to artists equitably and also have enough content coming into the site to make a subscription service viable. streaming won't be a p...
